Why we started Our Hidden Talent by Luwee’s
Evy Wee, Co-Founder of Our Hidden Talent by Luwee’s, shares why she and her husband Zhiwei started the initiative to support aspiring talent to become a master in their craft.
This is something very close to my heart, something that I have always wanted to do. I am honoured and privileged to start this initiative.
It is an initiative under our private trust. We have named it “Our Hidden Talent”.
Everyone has something that they love to do. That’s what make us wake up everyday, make our eyes light up to want to solve problems for the world and for the people around us.
Every individual has an innate and unique talent. In today’s world, many of us are under a lot of pressure and have responsibility for our family.
Even if you are doing something you really love to do, at the back of your mind as a business owner, you would think how to make your business sustainable for your employees, for your colleagues, for your own family.
Not everyone has the chance to freely pursue their passion, but I would want to encourage young talent to do something that they like, something that make them feel they want to perfect their craft.
We want to give people the courage to try and at least give it a shot.
We can support a residency or internship, where people can pursue what they want to pursue or even try something that they think is innate in them, something deeply buried in their passion and see if they can succeed.
We would look to partnerships and work with established masters in their craft. Both mentor and mentee would need to sacrifice their time and money, putting aside resources in this journey. We hope our programme can subsidise and provide for this.
We are also looking at cross collaborations with restaurants and bars overseas to give young talent exposure. It’s almost like a starter fund that will enable people to freely pursue what they want to pursue.
Over time, we will look at how we select our beneficiaries.
We are still in our early days. We are also learning in this space.
